Annai Teresa: A Journey of Compassion, Faith, Humility, Service, Love, and Global Inspiration for Humanity’s Poorest and Forgotten Souls

Mother Teresa, lovingly called Annai Teresa in India, was born on 26 August 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia. From a young age, she felt a deep calling to serve humanity. At just 18, she joined the Sisters of Loreto and came to India, where she taught at a convent school in Kolkata. However, her heart was moved by the suffering of the poor and sick outside the school walls. In 1948, she left the convent to dedicate herself fully to serving the destitute.

She founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950, a religious congregation devoted to helping “the poorest of the poor.” Her sisters cared for the homeless, lepers, orphans, and those abandoned by society. Clad in her simple white sari with a blue border, Mother Teresa became a symbol of compassion and humility. She believed that small acts of love could transform the world, famously saying, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

Her tireless work earned her global recognition. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, yet she remained humble, attributing all glory to God. Despite criticism from some quarters, her commitment to alleviating suffering never wavered. She expanded her mission across continents, inspiring countless volunteers and followers.

Mother Teresa passed away on 5 September 1997 in Kolkata. In 2016, she was canonized as Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Her life remains a shining example of selfless service, love, and faith, inspiring generations to care for the vulnerable.
