Long ago, in a peaceful village, lived a lonely woman who longed for a child. Soon, a beautiful tulip grew, and from its blossom emerged a tiny girl—no bigger than a thumb. She named her Thumbelina.


Thumbelina was gentle and kind, with a voice like birdsong. The woman crafted a cozy cradle from a walnut shell and kept Thumbelina safe and loved. But one night, while she slept peacefully on a petal, a greedy toad saw her and snatched her away.


Lost in the Wild: The Journey Through Strange Worlds


The toad wanted Thumbelina to marry her ugly son. She placed her on a lily pad in the middle of a pond. Thumbelina cried, but the fish and a dragonfly, moved by her sadness, freed her. She floated away, beginning a long journey through forests, fields, and seasons.

She met a beetle who kidnapped her because she was pretty, but his beetle friends mocked her for being too different. Sad and alone, she wandered through the cold woods. A kind field mouse took her in during winter. There, she met a rich but dull mole who wanted to marry her and take her underground forever.

Though the mouse encouraged the match, Thumbelina’s heart longed for sunshine, flowers, and freedom. One day, she found a wounded swallow in the tunnel. She secretly cared for him until spring came. Grateful, the swallow offered to take her far away on his back.

Wings to the Sun: A Home Among Petals

Flying over valleys and seas, Thumbelina finally arrived in a land of eternal spring, where flowers bloomed endlessly. The swallow gently set her on a giant blossom. To her surprise, tiny people—no bigger than her—emerged from the petals. One of them was a kind and handsome flower prince.

They welcomed Thumbelina warmly and made her feel like she truly belonged. The prince asked her to be his queen, and with a joyful heart, she said yes. The fairies gifted her a pair of wings so she could fly with them and never feel small again.

Thumbelina and her prince ruled the flower kingdom with kindness, and the swallow visited her every spring. As for the woman who once wished for a child—Thumbelina never forgot her and returned each year to bless her garden.
